BCT – Cryptocurrency & Blockchain certifications
Although Bitcoin is the current standard for a blockchain based cryptocurrency and an emergent IT field, little is known about the pathway to certification. Unlike most other expertise fields of IT, cryptocurrency and blockchain technology can almost be used interchangeably to describe the skill set. As it stands, the cryptocurrency field is made mostly of practitioners and only recently has there been a push for certifications that themselves live in the blockchain to establish trust-less systems for credentials enabling multiple contributors to participate in projects regardless of their location on earth.
Although the certification process is early, there is an agency that is issuing certifications. The Crypto Currency Certification Consortium (C4) offers two Bitcoin (cryptocurrency) certifications, the Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP) and the Certified Bitcoin Expert (CBE). A Certified Bitcoin Professional is “…knowledgeable about the Bitcoin blockchain, Bitcoin transactions, and how the Bitcoin network operates. CBPs are able to apply Bitcoin technology to their professional area of expertise and understand privacy aspects, double-spending, and other issues that relate to the currency.”
A Certified Bitcoin Expert “shares all of the knowledge as their CBP peers, but with much more depth. CBXes also possess expert-level knowledge about the Bitcoin protocol and network and have demonstrated the ability to develop applications which integrate with the Bitcoin network. CBXes understand how peers communicate on the Bitcoin network, how transactions are crafted at the byte level and how Bitcoin scripts can be written to customize the behavior of transactions.”
Although most of the careers related to blockchain and cryptocurrency revolve around Bitcoin other careers that can benefit from these certifications include Developers and Software Engineers, Application Architects, Systems Administrators, Security Professionals, Security Auditors, Cybercrime and Digital Forensic Investigators.
