Finding Exceptional Candidates

Although some larger tech companies have stopped hiring, laid off employees, or rescinded offers to new hires, the need for top talent has not stopped. Below are three choice options for finding exceptional candidates from LinkedIn.

Ask the Hiring Manager

Do you know what qualities and skills the right candidate needs? Checking in with your hiring manager is always a good first step. According to sourcing expert Angie Verros, in the article, “You’re not going to uncover things like culture from the job description. So when I’m in an intake call with a hiring manager, the thing that I always ask is, ‘Why should I come and work for you? Why should I leave an organization where I am happy and that’s doing almost the same thing your organization is doing? What makes you different?”

Candidate Mining

Starting your candidate search with people already in your database gives you a good headstart finding the needle in the haystack. Angie adds from the article, “A lot of sourcers and recruiters, go out to find new candidates when they have an entire database of candidates that have either applied in the past or they’ve searched and found them a year ago. Go back and revisit them because maybe their situation has changed.” Retreading old ground can put you behind the power curve when searching for a new hire.

What Do You Have to Offer?

If your company doesn’t have immediate brand recognition, you may have to add some razzmatazz to excite a potential candidate. Of course, nobody wants to work for a Brand X tech company, so be sure to hit the highlights in early communications. The article adds, “I always include in my first outreach, ‘If you haven’t heard of X company, here’s something you should know,'” Angie says. “Maybe one or two bullets like, ‘We’re growing like crazy,’ or ‘You have the chance to do X.”

Whatever the job market is doing, it’s happening when companies still need candidates. So be sure you are ready to make a compelling case for your company when competition for qualified candidates remains fierce.
