Is Temp-to-Hire Right for You as an Employee?

I’ve mentioned before that temp-to-hire provides clear advantages to both employers and employees alike. In my blog entry last week, I reviewed the benefits of a successful TTH strategy for employers. This week I am concentrating on the opposite side of the same coin and focusing on benefits to the candidate. Below are a few reasons TTH may be a great pathway to full-time employment.

Try It Before You Buy It

It’s no surprise that some of the TTH benefits go both ways and are helpful to employers and candidates. The opportunity to try out a position before you, or the company, fully commits is certainly beneficial to all. Just as the company wants to see if you are a good fit, you should assess if the company culture and job are right for you. Temp-to-hire affords you this opportunity. You get to experience the position, responsibilities, work environment, team members, management, etc. first-hand before taking the full-time plunge.

A Paid Audition

You understand the benefits of trying it before you buy it and may consider that as an audition for a position. The best part is that it is a paid audition. If after you complete your trial period either you or the employer decides that it is best to part ways it is not the end of the world. You only spent a short period of time at a job that could have proved to be a long-term disaster – and you got paid for it.

Drive Time

Over the past several years work life balance has become increasingly important to employees. Particularly in today’s competitive job market, people are less willing to have long commutes. Just like trying out the position, with TTH you can also try out the commute and keep your work and life in good balance.

Job Satisfaction

Recent studies show that permanent employees who began their positions as TTH staff are more satisfied with their jobs and perceive greater upward mobility for themselves. It makes sense. The trial period provides potential employees with a solid view of the innerworkings of an organization. It makes sense that recognizing future opportunities and a desirable work environment early on leads to greater satisfaction down the road.

Temp-to-hire is a great strategy for many employees. Changing jobs can be stressful and accepting the wrong job can be devastating. TTH can help you weed out the ill-fitting jobs and land a position that is mutually beneficial for you and your employer.
