Soft Skills Critical for Talent Management

Gauging a potential hire’s soft skills were left to interviews. But now it can be appropriately said, “Well, well, well, how the turntables.” There is a growing list of soft skills for talent management that was not on the radar five years ago. Marc Holliday details this in 15 Top Talent Management Trends for 2021, and three of those 15 are mentioned here.

Education

On its face, education isn’t a soft skill. But what stays out of the training manuals is how education, training, and reskilling your workforce helps cut attrition numbers. For example, the article cites, “…companies with better training had a 53% lower attrition rate, which reduces hiring costs and improves productivity.”

Holistic View of Diversity

Companies are discovering new pathways to problem solving and innovation by paying attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) factors like individual employee backgrounds. In addition, diverse experiences in life lead to new ways of thinking through customer-facing and back-end processes.

Empathy

Empathy goes beyond a birthday card once a year. Holliday states, “Workers consistently say in-person communication is the most impactful form of communication, so talk to your employees and make connections. Get to know them and encourage their managers to get to know them personally and try to better understand their career goals.”
