The 3 Questions You Should Ask Every Candidate

The recruiting process can be a guessing game. How can you know if a candidate is the right fit for your company before they start working? To help take the guesswork out of recruiting, we’ve compiled a list of the three questions you need to ask to determine if a candidate is right for your company.

1. What do you know about our company?

This question accomplishes two things. First, it allows you to gauge a candidate’s level of interest in working for your company. If they did their research and are excited about what your company does and stands for, that’s a good sign. Second, it allows you to see how well the candidate communicates. Can they succinctly and accurately sum up what your company does? If not, it may be an indication that they’re not the right fit.

2. What makes you a good fit for this role?

This question allows candidates to demonstrate their understanding of both the role and your company culture. In addition, the best candidates will be able to show that they have the skills and personality traits necessary to excel in the role and fit in with your company culture.

3. What are your salary expectations?

This question may seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many companies avoid asking it until late in the hiring process, only to find out that their top choice candidate was expecting (and hoping) to make much more than they were willing to pay. By getting an early sense of a candidate’s salary expectations, you can save time and energy by avoiding candidates who are outside your budget.

Asking these three questions during the recruitment process will help ensure that you find candidates who are excited about your company, have the skills and personality necessary to excel in the role and are within your budget. With these factors accounted for, you’ll be one step closer to building a strong team that can help take your business to the next level.
